Peru Community Education Center

The next thing the Foundation is building: a place to gather, and to teach what is known about this plant.

General donations to the Foundation pay for all of our projects: the garden at Taray, the educational programs, the podcast, and this.

A Gathering Place what we are building

The Foundation is raising money for a community education center in Peru: somewhere for the people this work brings together to meet, and somewhere what is known about these plants can be shared and preserved.

It is the fourth part of the plan we set out in 2024, after the land, the terraces and the planting. The first three are done or under way.

Where it will be is not settled yet. What it is for is.

What It Holds what it is for

Four uses, and every one of them is work the Foundation is already doing.

  • A base for volunteers, with somewhere to stay while they work
  • A gathering place for the Huachuma Wisdom community
  • Teaching space, and room for what is known about these plants to be passed on
  • A nursery and propagation area for the cactus

A teacher

Javier Regueiro

Born in Lugano in 1965 to a Spanish family, Javier Regueiro came to Peru in 2004 and studied under Don Francisco Montes Shuña, a Capanahua plant medicine maestro whose teaching shaped the rest of his life.

In 2006 he built a healing center of his own, Ayaruna, raising the ceremonial spaces, the accommodation and the gardens by hand, and for more than a decade it served people from around the world. He died before our founder could sit in ceremony with him.

Why a Center where the idea comes from

The Foundation has drawn on what Javier made at Ayaruna: a place given over to this work, kept for more than a decade, that people traveled to from around the world.

Community is essential to what we do, and a place dedicated to it is what ours has been asking for.
